Ministocks are the newest class in speedway today. First introduced at Wanganui in the mid-nineties it was not very long at all before the class was also introduced at Stratford. Since then numbers have risen greatly and most nights it is not uncommon to see thirty of the little cars line up. While full contact is prohibited, gentle contact is allowed and combined with sheer weight of numbers, it is a regular occurrence to see a rollover in the class.

The lightweight cars are powered by a donor car's engine no larger than 1200cc and along with standard running gear from that vehicle they can be as cheap as $3000 dollars to build.

There are two classes of Ministocks at Stratford. Adults and Youths. The youths range in age from 12 to 16 years old..
