Tight racing for Modified Memorial

Tight racing was the name of the game in the Modified class at Stratford Speedway on Saturday night when ten competitors lined up to contest the Rusty Kay Memorial.  The close racing generated a different winner in each of the three races but it was current New Zealand ranked number one Richard Pierce who came out on top and won the memorial after winning race one from a grid four start, placing fifth in race two from grid nine and then coming home second in race three from grid four.  Pierce amassed a point’s total of twenty five over the three races and won the event by just one point from Farron Lowry.  Shaun Bloeman, who looked exceptionally quick all night was rewarded for his efforts with third place.

Stockcar competitors had a busy night with four memorial trophies up for grabs.  Shane Denham won the Wayne Trott memorial for first year drivers after drawing a grid near the front of the field for the one race event.  Denham also won the Allan Hancock memorial ahead of Mark Duthie and Mark Woods while Kylee Symes won the Michael Walker memorial.  Tyler Walker was second and Woods again third.  There was some good action over the four races that included Mike Zilwood rolling Troy Bright before poking Bradley Podjursky up the wall also.  Rowan Urlich was rolled in a multi car pileup.  Podjursky drove over Codey Wilton’s bonnet and ripped it off and William Hughes was being given a hurry up by Haydin Barker on more than one occasion.  Barker was awarded the Warren Lowry memorial trophy for the best stirrer for his consistent antics throughout the whole night.

Twelve Minisprints raced on the night with Palmerston North competitors dominating the proceedings.  Karl McGill won the first race and Jordan McLeod the third.  Lydia Dickinson carried the chequered flag for the locals when she won race two.

Adult Ministock races were won by Zane Riddick, Kadin Woods and Nathan Nolly while the Youth Ministock races were won by Thomas Boniface (two) and Zen Dodunski.  Chloe Ingram found herself in a bit of trouble when she rode the wall for several metres before her car fell on its side in race one.  Her car suffered minimal damage however and she was back on the track for the next two races.
